And last section of this module, Google calendar! You should only need to turn on keyboard shortcuts once.

Step 1

Open a new tab in your web browser and navigate to the address bar.

Type in calendar.google.com and press enter.

Sign in if needed.

Step 2

Navigate to the "settings" button. Press enter. Press enter once more on "settings."

Step 3

Navigate by heading until you hear "keyboard shortcuts." Use your down arrow to locate the "enable keyboard shortcuts" checkbox. Press spacebar to check the box. Press escape to close.

Step 4

Turn off the virtual view of your respective screen reader and enjoy.

Tips

  • Schedule view is the recommended view for accessing the calendar with a screen reader.
  • When in schedule view, use up and down arrows to move through a day's events, and use left and right arrows to move between days.
  • Here are a couple of shortcuts to get you started, but you will find a comprehensive list linked below.
    • Press a - to switch to schedule view
    • Press c - to create a new event
    • Press e - to edit an event
    • Press t - to go to today's events
  • You can visit the comprehensive list of keyboard shortcuts for Google Calendar, or while in Google Calendar, press "control /" to bring up the available keyboard shortcuts. You will need to turn on your screen reader's virtual view to navigate the table of commands.

    Troubleshooting

    1. Ensure virtual cursor, browse mode, quick nav, or sticky mode is OFF
    2. Refresh the page
    3. While you should only need to turn on keyboard shortcuts once, you can always double check that they are still enabled if they start not to work.

    4. Check if your browser needs an update.
