Welcome to the Google Workspace Special Edition Module

In this module, we will be discussing the use of Google keyboard shortcuts in Google Drive, calendar, and G-mail.

Materials Needed:

A g-mail account: You don't even need any screen access software. Yes, that's right. Google keyboard shortcuts can be enabled and work regardless if a user needs screen access software. They are usable by anyone. Universal design at its finest!

Prerequisite Skills

Familiarity and basic knowledge of the QWERTY keyboard layout

Intended Audience

This course is intended for people with visual impairments, teachers of the visually impaired or other vision professionals, or parents or friends of people with visual impairments. However, as stated above, Google keyboard shortcuts are for the consumption of any user with a g-mail account.

Course Objectives:

  • Objective 1: Understand the difference between Google keyboard shortcuts and screen reader keyboard commands
  • Objective 2: Learn how to enable Google keyboard shortcuts in Workspace applications
  • Objective 3: Learn several basic Google keyboard shortcuts in Google Drive, Calendar, and G-mail
  • Objective 4: Learn where to find comprehensive resources on Google keyboard shortcuts

The Fine Print

If you are a screen reader user, it is recommended that this module only be taken once you have completed your specific screen reader course. For ease of understanding, ensure that you have an established g-mail prior to beginning this course. This module will involve several small activities. Please have the appropriate Google application open in a separate tab or window so that you can quickly switch between activity instructions and the application.

This module should not take the place of Google Workspace accessibility help resources. Rather, it should be used as a launching pad for learning to use Workspace. Resources and videos will be offered throughout this module for further exploration and learning. Occasionally a video may not refer to your individual screen reader, but remember, keyboard shortcuts can be used by any user despite the screen access software being used.

OKAY! LET'S GO!!! :)
