What Is VoiceOver Focus?
When VoiceOver is on, there is always one item that VoiceOver is “pointing at.” This is called the VoiceOver focus – in this adventure, we’ll call it your Explorer’s Compass.
- Swipe Right: moves your Explorer’s Compass to the next item.
- Swipe Left: moves your Explorer’s Compass to the previous item.
- Double Tap: activates the item where your Explorer’s Compass is, even if you tap in a different spot on the screen.
- Touch Explore: moves the Explorer’s Compass to whatever your finger is touching.
As you swipe, listen to what VoiceOver says. The item it reads is the one that currently has focus – that’s where your Explorer’s Compass is pointing.
Next, you’ll practice moving your Explorer’s Compass and activating the correct jungle friend.
Practice: Follow Your Explorer’s Compass
Use one finger to swipe right and left to move your Explorer’s Compass between the animals below. Listen for each animal’s name as VoiceOver reads it.
When your Explorer’s Compass is on Parrot, double tap to activate it. Remember: you are activating the item in focus, not where your finger lands.
