PurposeWhy images matter
Welcome to the Kitchen Camera Crew. Your job is to make the cooking show accessible by choosing the best alt text, deciding when an image is decorative, and describing what matters in a “video clip.”
Win condition: Complete each stage (alt-text choice, decorative decision, and video description). Finish to earn a badge.

Stage 1Pick the best alt text
Alt text basics
Alt text is a short description for an image. Good alt text answers: What is it? and Why does it matter here? It avoids “image of…” and doesn’t include extra jokes unless the image itself is a joke.
Goal: Choose the best alt text for the show image.

Stage 2Decorative or meaningful?
Decorative images
Some images are just decoration (borders, flourishes, background confetti). Decorative images should usually have empty alt text so VoiceOver skips them. Meaningful images need a description.
Goal: Decide whether the image is decorative or meaningful in this context.

Stage 3Video clip: describe what matters
Video & VoiceOver
Video content needs context. A good description is short and focuses on what the viewer needs: actions, key visuals, and any on-screen text that matters.
Goal: Choose the best description for the clip (like a mini audio description).
